Getting There

Harbour Island is one of the out-islands of the Bahamas. Looking east from the beach, the next landfall is Africa.

Boat

IMG_0176.gif

The island can only be reached by boat or seaplane. If you land at North Eleuthera airport, take a taxi to Three Island Dock. It’s a five-minute ride and there are usually taxis standing by. If not, call Fine Threads on +1 (242) 359 7780.

It’s a 10-minute boat ride from Three-Island dock in North Eleuthera to Harbour Island and there are almost always taxi-boats standing-by. If not, your taxi from the airport will call one. If you prefer chartering a taxi boat ahead of your arrival, try Captain Grant on +1 (242) 470 9999, or Juan on +1 (242) 465 9198.

If you would like someone to organise the whole transfer for you, call, text or WhatsApp Ovincent on ‭+1 (242) 470-1915‬

Seaplane

The most spectacular way to arrive is by seaplane from Miami or Nassau. You can land right next to the island and transfer to a boat for a two-minute ride to shore.

We find the best option is Trans Island Airways, who operate out of the Jet Nassau FBO next to the main terminal in Nassau (not the Odyssey FBO), have excellent regard to safety, and have a Cessna Grand Caravan Seaplane (pictured, seats 8 in comfort and takes a lot of luggage, and is faster and quieter than other seaplanes around) http://www.tia.aero, or e-mail sales@tia.aero, or call ‭+1 (242) 362-4006‬.

Commercial Flights

The closest airport is North Eleuthera (ELH for commercial, MYEH for charter flights). From there it’s a five-minute taxi ride to Three-Island dock to take the ten-minute boat ride to Harbour Island.

There are direct flights from Nassau (Pineapple Air and Bahamas Air), Miami (American Eagle), Fort Lauderdale (Silverjet and TIA), Atlanta (Delta), and Charlotte (American Eagle), depending on the time of year.

If you are coming from Europe, it’s best to fly to Nassau. There is a direct British Airways flight from London Heathrow, usually four days a week (typically Mondays, Thursdays, Friday and Sundays) and twice weekly Virgin atlantic flights from Heathrow (Monday and Friday during the Summer, Wednesday and Saturday during the Winter).

Alternatively, transferring via Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Atlanta are good options, but they usually involve an overnight stay in the U.S., unless you charter a plane to North Eleuthera.

Charters

From Nassau, Miami or Fort Lauderdale, depending on the size of your party and your connections, it may be worth chartering a small plane. Two options are Trans Island Airways, who operate out of the Jet Nassau FBO in Nassau (http://www.tia.aero, or e-mail sales@tia.aero, or call ‭+1 (242) 362-4006‬) and have jets, Cessna Grand Caravans and a Cessna Grand Caravan Seaplane (these both seat 8 and take a lot of luggage), or Bahama Hoppers, who operate small planes out of North Eleuthera and the Odyssey FBO in Nassau (www.bahamahoppers.com or call ‭+1 (242) 359-7258‬)

Fast Ferry

There is a fast ferry service from and to Nassau. It leaves from near Paradise Island (not near the airport) in the morning and leaves Harbour Island in the afternoon. Visit http://bahamasferries.com for more information. The fast ferry docks at Government Dock.

From the Dock

The taxi-boat will by default drop you at Government Dock. You can ask to be dropped at Valentines dock, which is nicer. From there it’s a ten-minute golf cart or taxi ride to the house. There are various taxi services, try Reggie on +1 (242) 359 7603 or Troy on +1 (242) 470 4306.
